Aldi is pushing ahead with its plans for a new supermarket in Grantham.

Last week, the growing grocery retailer announced it was seeking sites across the country for further outlets as part of a nationwide expansion.

They included a site in Bourne and a second supermarket in Stamford.

The move follows the company submitting a planning application with South Kesteven District Council the week previously for its first Stamford supermarket on Uffington Road.

In Grantham, the company has applied to build a 1,821m2 supermarket with parking for 142 cars on the corner of Harlaxton Road and Trent Road.

The supermarket, said the planning application, would employ some 30 staff on the 1.09 ha site, which would replace its existing supermarket in South Parade.

An Aldi spokesman told Nub News: "Since submission in December 2019, we have been working closely with the Council to refine our proposals. We are committed to the site on Harlaxton Road and remain hopeful of a positive outcome.

"It was clear from our public consultation exercise that the local community was very much behind our plans and we will continue to serve the local community at our existing store until we secure approval for our new store".

The application is expected to come before the planning committee of South Kesteven District Council sometime later this year.
