Major fire strikes village north of Grantham

A village north of Grantham has been hit by a major fire.

Fire crews from Grantham, Sleaford, Broughton, Billingborough and Holbeach attended the blaze at Ancaster Karting and Paintball in Ermine Street.

Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue reported: "Severe fire damage to a large quantity of tyres and pallets, one trailer, trees and vegetation."

"Residents nearby are advised to keep doors and windows closed."

Shortly after 6pm they tweeted the fire was extinguished using 3 main jets, 1 hose reel, foam and dry powder.

Earlier in the day, some time after 12-noon, Grantham Fire Brigade was called to a chimney fire at Wheatsheaf Lane, Long Bennington.

Crew used chimney gear to extinguish a fire caused by a build up of twigs within the chimney.

They advise: "Please remember to have your chimney swept at least once a year."
