Grantham: Murder inquiry after assault victim dies

A police investigation into a serious assault near Grantham has now become a murder inquiry after the victim sadly died last night.

Lincolnshire Police today reported a 72 year old man previously arrested in connection with the incident at Long Bennington, has been released on bail. The other two men, aged 63 and 35, remain in custody.

Om Thursday, as previously reported by Nub News, the victim, a man in his 40s. had received serious head injuries.

Today, police repeated their appeal for any witnesses, or anyone with information, that could assist the investigation, to come forward.

Detective Inspector Andy McWatt said, "This tragic development means we will now be treating this as a murder enquiry. We are very grateful for the cooperation and support we have received but would like to urge any witnesses who have not yet come forward, to call us on 101.

"If you have any information that you feel just might be relevant, please get in touch. It is vital that we have every detail in order to understand what led to this devastating outcome."

Police have now clarified the time of the incident was around 5 pm on Wednesday August 11.
