Death at Grantham station halts trains

Grantham train station was closed today after a death on the line.

British Transport Police were called to the station around 7.30am this morning and paramedics also attended.

A person was pronounced dead the scene and police are now working to identify them and contact their family.

All trains on the East Coast main line were suspended by East Midlands Trains, Hull Trains and London North Eastern Railway, but began operating again shortly before 10am. But National Rail is warning of up to 90-minute delays to all services until lunchtime.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "We were called to Grantham station at 7.37am this morning following a report of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however a person has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family. This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
