A popular Grantham Butcher has temporarily closed after a member of staff tested positive with coronavirus.

The move has been made to help protect customers and staff.

Watkins Butchers in 'Wide' Westgate made the announcement on social media after Christmas.

They said: "During our Christmas break one of our bakers has tested positive for corona virus. Although nobody else has tested positive we have made the decision to keep our shop closed until Monday 4th January.

"This is to protect all our staff and customers during the isolation period, we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

On New Year's Day, however, the business further commented: "Due to a large number of our staff self isolating we have made a difficult decision to remain closed for another week. Our shop will be closed until MONDAY 11th JANUARY.

Their Facebook post added: "It is our number one priority to ensure all our staff and customers remain safe during this difficult time.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank everyone for their continued support."

Customers praised the business for its decision.

Alison Clements said: "Best decision....much respect for you. Stay safe everyone."

Paula Coverley said: "Let's hope others take your lead and do the same. Wishing you all a speedy recovery. X"

Jan Cotterill commented: "Better safe than sorry for those who are ill. I wish you a speedy recovery and for those self isolating, enjoy the extra break."
