Coronavirus crisis: Grantham businesses welcome speedy business of government grants by South Kesteven District Council

Businesses in Grantham and across South Kesteven are receiving much-needed government money to help them survive the Coronavirus crisis.

South Kesteven District Council received £32 million of funding from central government to support small business grants on Wednesday.

The next day, SKDC council leader Coun Kelham Cooke said the council paid out 921 business grants, totaling £10,755,000.

"These will start to land in business bank accounts overnight and tomorrow morning," he continued.

Businesses have welcomed the support in their replies to the council and Coun Cooke on Twitter.

Kay Armitage of independent ladies boutique Kays of Grantham commented: "Just checked and have received mine. I know I am opinionated at times but credit where credit is due!! Thank you & keep up the good work you're doing for everyone in the district."

Grantham retailer Bare Planet said: "Many thanks for processing payment so quickly. Funds have now reached our account and will support us in retaining our staff on furlough."

Dawn French of Grantham counselling service Reflections Practice Ltd also said thanks, saying her business was "carrying on in difficult times."

Robert Loomes of Stamford watchmaker Loomes & co said: "Top marks SKDC. Hope all councils can match you. Truly well done with mamoth task in very short time. Great communications too - I've had timely emails on this, a letter and heard the radio. Well done."

The Bourne Bookshop tweeted: "Many thanks for turning this round so promptly- gratefully received and a lifeline to an indie bookshop."

Asked by another business, how to apply. Coun Cooke responded that he, on behalf of the council had written to more than 2,200 'entitled' businesses across South Kesteven.
