Everything kicks off tonight at an annual Cider and Sausage festival, staged by one of the most popular pubs in the Grantham area.

The event at the Geese & Fountain at Croxton Kerrial starts at 5.30pm today and the ciders and the sausages will be available up to and including Saturday night.

Then, the pub will announce the winning Cider and Sausage of the Festival, based on everyone's scores.

The annual festival has been a much-loved part of the Geese & Fountain calendar since Nick Holden and Kate Ahrens re-opened the village hostelry in 2015.

Landlord Nick told Nub News: "We always try to feature ciders from local producers, and this year we have two ciders from the Vale of Belvoir's very own "Woodman's Cider", two from "Charnwood Cider" and two from the Bottle Kicking Cider Company from Hallaton.

"Add to those a selection of prime real cider from the best cider producing counties of the country, and we think we've got one of the best arrays of traditional cider that you'll find in a pub.

"As for the sausages, we've got some stunners from local favourites Ancaster Butchers, and the mythical David Cox Lincolnshire sausage from David Cox in Stathern.

"We're also making our very own vegan 'Lentil and Mushroom' sausages, from a special recipe.

"Then we've scoured local farm shops to bring a selection of fabulous flavours from Elms Farm, Woodhouse Farm and Northfield Farm."

"As well as our vegan sausage, and the Cauldron vegetarian Lincolnshire sausage, we also have a selection of gluten free varieties available - so there really is something for everyone."

Nick continued: "We're taking Covid-19 precautions seriously at the Geese and Fountain, as you know, so we are asking all customers to follow the rules and guidelines in place, and not to travel from very high risk areas.

"We will keep our customers and staff safe once they are here, so they can concentrate on enjoying both the cider and the sausages."

He added: "We'll also be serving our regular menus, and have our usual exceptional range of beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks, so there's no need to worry if someone in your family doesn't like cider - or sausages!"
