Fireworks, music concerts and outdoor theatre are just some of the exciting events taking place at Belvoir Castle this summer, now open six days a week.

On Saturday, 10 August, one of the best firework events in the UK will be held in the grounds of the Regency castle, the only venue in the Midlands to enjoy the Firework Championships.

Visitors can sit back and watch dazzling displays from some of the leading firework companies choreographed to music before voting for their favourite.

Now in its sixth year, visitors to the popular event can bring along blankets and low backed chairs for an exciting evening of entertainment.

Picnic baskets from The Fuel Tank at the Engine Yard are also available, filled with a selection of sandwiches, homemade cakes, savoury snacks as well as champagne. Baskets must be booked in advance.

Emma, Duchess of Rutland, says: "With summer in full swing, where better to enjoy your time than at Belvoir Castle?

"We have all sorts of exciting events to suit the whole family, from outdoor theatre and fireworks to an evening with a Queen Tribute Band.

"With the castle now open six days a week, there has never been a better time to visit."

Inside Belvoir Castle, visitors will meet a host of historical characters including the 5th Duchess Elizabeth Manners, instrumental in rebuilding Belvoir Castle after it was destroyed in a fire in 1816, Housekeeper Elizabeth Stanley and Butler Thomas Douglas going about their duties in the castle's grand rooms.

Also not to be missed are the historic gardens, currently in the running for Historic Houses 'Garden of the Year'.

Recently-launched Capability Brown Garden Tours give visitors the opportunity to explore the lost garden designs of England's greatest gardener, brought to life by the 11th Duchess following a two-year restoration programme, in an open-top trailer.

The first-ever open air theatre will also take place within the grounds of Belvoir Castle on 20 August.

Audiences can step back in time and enjoy an incredible performance of the Jane Austen classic Pride & Prejudice, performed by Chapterhouse Theatre Company.

And on 22 August, against the backdrop of Belvoir Castle, enjoy an energetic performance from an authentic tribute band to Freddie Mercury and Queen.

With spectacular costumes and excellent musicianship, pull up a chair and tuck into a picnic for an evening of sing-along hits.

Throughout summer The Engine Yard, just a stone's throw from the castle, will play host to a selection of local music artists and events, as well as its usual Makers' Market which takes place on the third Sunday of every month.
