The Firework Champions event at Belvoir Castle this evening (Sat) has been cancelled.

Here is the official statement Organisers MLE Pyrotechnics: "Unfortunately due to wind conditions we have made the decision to postpone today's event at Belvoir Castle to Saturday, 31 August.

"Your tickets will be valid for this event, any of our other events or Belvoir in 2020 should you wish.

"We have left the decision to the very last minute possible and having just had a final safety meeting with the team and castle we have decided this is the best way forward.

"Further details very soon please bear with us. We are very sorry for any inconvenience."

Yesterday lunchtime MLE Pyrotechnics told Grantham Nub News the event would go ahead, despite gusts of up to 40mph forecast at the time.

The company's Tam Lawrence told Grantham Nub News: "It's just one day to go now until Belvoir Castle Firework Champions.

"The event will be going ahead tomorrow come wind, rain or (hopefully!) shine.

"We have many procedures in place to combat the adverse weather, such as moving the firing sites further away from the audience and re-angling the fireworks if this is required.

"We look forward to seeing everyone there on Saturday night!"
